Our Liability Insurance Coverage

Because we are an independent insurance agency, we take pride in offering the best policies at Canby Insurance & Investment. We vet our insurance carriers carefully to make sure the coverage you get is backed by quality claims service.

In fact, we'll work with you to build the perfect liability insurance for your business. Let's explore some of the options together.

General Liability

General liability insurance is a broad commercial policy that covers general liability exposures of a business. Coverage typically includes product liability, completed operations, premises and operations, and personal and advertising injury. We recommend that all businesses have general liability coverage in place.

Business Owner's Policy (BOP)

BOP is a business insurance policy that combines property, liability, and business interruption coverage for small to medium-sized businesses. This packaged set of coverage is generally less expensive than if coverage was purchased separately.

A business owner's policy is typically available to businesses and industries that are viewed as having relatively low liability exposures.

Workers Comp and Employers Liability

This coverage pays for medical care and physical rehabilitation of employees injured at work and helps to replace lost wages while they are unable to work. Additionally, this coverage protects an employer from being sued by an injured worker in most cases.

This coverage can also protect employees while driving for company business. Even if they are driving their own vehicle, their injuries are still covered if they are in an accident while on company business. This can include sales calls, trips to the bank, or office supply runs.

This type of coverage is commonly overlooked. If you have employees, it is critical that you consider this important coverage.

Professional Liability (E&O)

E&O covers professionals for negligence and errors or omissions that injure their clients. In addition to covering licensed professionals such as accountants, attorneys, insurance agents, architects, and engineers, technology companies frequently need professional liability exposure to be adequately protected.

General liability policies will often exclude damage to data. This means that technology companies can be especially vulnerable without additional insurance.

Technology E&O can protect your company in the event that your negligence, error, or omission causes damage to a third party's data. We recommend that all professional and technology companies have E&O coverage.

Umbrella

This business insurance policy provides coverage for losses above the limit of an underlying policy. In other words, your general liability, employer liability, and auto liability will have certain limits. If your claim exceeds those limits, you may have to pay the difference. Umbrella coverage can protect you in these cases.

Due to the unpredictable nature of jury awards, Canby Insurance & Investment recommends that your business insurance program have this coverage. This can prevent you from being drained after a claim is made.

EPLI

Employment practices liability insurance for employers covers employment-related liabilities other than on-the-job injuries. EPLI will cover legal fees and damages for suits such as wrongful termination, discrimination, sexual harassment, and other alleged violations of your employees' legal rights.

Although only 3% of employment practices lawsuits go in favor of the plaintiff, the average cost to defend yourself in one of these cases is well over $200,000. If you have employees, we recommend considering this coverage.

D&O

Directors and officers liability insurance (D&O) covers directors and officers of a company for negligent acts or omissions and for misleading statements that result in lawsuits against the company.

There are a variety of D&O coverages. Corporate reimbursement coverage indemnifies directors and officers of the organization. Side-A coverage provides D&O coverage for personal liability when directors and officers are not indemnified by the firm.

Entity coverage, for claims made specifically against the company, is also available. D&O policies may be broadened to include coverage for employment practices liability.

Commercial Auto Liability

This business insurance policy provides protection in case of vehicle-related accidents on the job. This includes bodily injury liability, property damage, and injuries the policyholder or their employees cause to someone else in a company automobile.

This coverage will also cover the associated medical payments. If the driver or passengers of the policyholder's car are injured, the policy also includes personal injury protection (PIP) coverage for treatment.

Hired and Non-Owned Auto Liability

This provides a business with business insurance coverage for certain liabilities arising from the use of a rented or leased vehicle (hired) or a non-owned vehicle (employee using their own vehicle on company business). This can often be inexpensively added to the commercial auto policy or in some cases a general liability policy.

We know that finding the right insurance can seem overwhelming, but we're a local, family-owned business, and we'll work with you personally. Ask us your questions. Tell us about your needs. You can trust Canby Insurance & Investment with your insurance needs in Oregon and Washington.
